Career Highlights? Three time British Longboard Ladies and British Longboard Union Champions

Tell us about yourself in two paragraphs I’m a busy little bee at the moment. I fit my surfing in around my studies at university in Edinburgh. I’m taking English Literature and I love it. I live with three other nutty ladies like myself in a small student flat and we always have a giggle. Although the work is tough, I try not to get too down about it- the summer holidays are only ever a few months away!

I’ve been on the O’Neill team for over five years now and they’ve really helped to develop my surfing. I started out on a shortboard, trying desperately to be like my older brother, Joe. He got me into longboarding, where I competed first off at the age of 15. Since being the youngest woman to win the title in Britain, I’ve never once looked back!

Who do you like to ride with?My dad. He doesn’t care about what anyone thinks about him. He laughs and sings and just makes sure that the both of us have an awesome session. (Even if it’s 1ft of onshore slop!)

Best thing about your job?Being able to travel with it and meet some truly incredible personalities along the way. Just doing what I love is pretty sweet in itself.

Who are your heroes? My mum. How on earth she puts up with me, my smelly wetsuits and goodness knows what else, I’ll never know. Perhaps it’s a skill you just pick up on having kids?

What do you do for fun when you’re not riding? My friends call me Grandma because I love to sew, bakes cakes, make jewelry and I get excited about anything crafty! My family is pretty musical, so I’m always at my sister’s gigs. Other than that, I love to hang out the beach at my brother’s shop and cycle there if I’m feeling up to it!

Plans for the next 12 months?During the summer I’ll be coaching at my brother’s surf school, Little Joe’s and then it’s back to university for me for third year! It’s cold up in Edinburgh, but I have some cosy 6mm O’Neill wetsuits to keep me toasty. It’s worth braving it to have perfection without the crowds. I’m hoping to do some serious training up north this winter so that I can qualify for European and World competitions next summer.
